Because nationally famous women are being recognized I arranged a visit to The Tabard Theatre in Chiswick which is easily reached by Turnham Green Station and is a theatre which members have suggested. The play was written by J.J. Leppink, the nephew of Sara Wesker.
The one-woman play – Chopped Liver and Unions – is a true story of Sara Wesker (played by Lottie Walker) a woman who led the singing strikers of 1928, stood against fascists at Cable Street and devoted herself to the Communist cause. Yet, behind every banner and battle cry lies a personal cost. Love, loyalty, and legacy – what endures, and what is sacrificed. This gripping, 5-star OffFest-nominated play reminds us that the world is often changed by the women pushed too far. It was a very strong, thought-provoking production. Women like Sara fought, amongst other things, for equal pay for women.
Some of us have also been to The Coliseum for opera and to the The Mill at Sonning to see their latest comedy.
The Theatre Group is open to all members. To ensure most people are aware of the events they are advertised by email from a committee member because due to data protection I do not have access directly to members. BUT all applications should come to me not the Chair or Rob.
May I wish you all a Happy New Year.
